The Evanston/Skokie Council of PTAs has extended the deadline to Friday, April 16, for submitting nominations for the 2010 Phyllis Ganser Outstanding PTA Volunteer of the Year Award. Now in its 10th year, the award was established to honor the life of its namesake, an exceptional school volunteer who died in 2000.

Nominees for the award must meet the following criteria: 1) be committed to the PTA goal of promoting the welfare of all schoolchildren; 2) be willing to work in any capacity, including behind the scenes; 3) show spirit and enthusiasm for volunteer work; 4) have the ability to engage and involve other volunteers; 5) be a member in good standing of the PTA or PTSA in districts 65 or 202.

The name of the award winner will be announced at the May school board meeting, mentioned in the local media and have his or her name inscribed on a plaque in the District 65 Administration Building.

Phyllis Ganser attended Evanston/Skokie schools and became a tireless PTA volunteer in those schools, setting a high standard for dedication to the community. She also was the mother of three children who attended Walker, Chute and ETHS. Her youngest child, Adam, is a junior at ETHS.
