Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, left, and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, ask Evanston residents to complete their census forms.

Saying “There is too much at stake for Evanston if you don’t fill out your census forms,” Seventh Ward Alderman Jane Grover added her voice to those of Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, left, and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky in asking Evanston residents to complete their census forms.

Mayor Tisdahl said, “For anyone who has complained about property taxes – and we all have – it’s time to fill out your [census] forms.” She added that her birthday is in a few days and a great present from the community would be having everyone fill out their forms.

Congresswoman Schakowsky said, “When people don’t fill out their forms, we lose as a community. The 25,000 people who have not done so would fill half of Ryan Field or two-thirds of Wrigley Field (Go, Cubs!).” She added that census information is confidential. “Nothing can be shared, even with another government agency. Penalties can be $250,000 fine and five years in prison. Dorothy Williams, executive director of Family Focus Our Place, said there was a special effort to get forms returned from census tracts 8092 and 8096. Forms are due April 16.
