American Red Cross Adult and Child CPR will take place from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, May 5 and 12 at the Chandler-Newberger Center, 1028 Central St. This class, for those aged 12 years and up, will demonstrate how to perform rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway, and performing one-rescuer CPR. The Evanston Recreation Division is reserving courts at James Park for senior adults to play tennis every Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 9 and 11 a.m. Beginning May 4, seniors are invited to come with a partner or alone to meet another player and start a game. There is no fee and no registration required. There will be no staff present. Evanston residents in need of equipment may borrow a racquet and balls at no charge from the adjacent Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.
John Jaminski of the City of Evanston Parks Division will share his vast gardening knowledge from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 at the Evanston Ecology Center. The first subject of the series will be “Beginning Gardening.” Anyone age 16 & older can participate. The fee is $15. Call 847-448-8256 for more info.
Buy Beach Tokens Early
Through June 11, Evanston and Skokie residents save money by purchasing beach tokens for $22 each. When beaches open on June 12, token prices increase to $30. Tokens are available at the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., and all community centers. A daily pass is $8 for those aged 12 and older and $6 for children aged 1-11. Children under age 1 are admitted free. Fee assistance and a limited number of free tokens are available to Evanston residents who meet income guidelines. For more details, call 847-866-2900.
