Chute Middle School will present the musical “Willy Wonka,” based on Roald Dahl’s classic book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” with music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newly.

More than 150 students are participating in the musical, performing on stage or in the orchestra or working backstage. The production, an all-school project, is directed by drama teacher Gloria Clunie. Ina Allen is the music director; Margaret Philbrick, assisted by Allyson Berger, conducts the orchestra. Cindy Adler, art teacher and District 65 Art Department chair, heads set design; Sherri Kushner assists with graphics and video.

Inspired by “Pure Imagination,” Willy Wonka’s signature song, the all-school project began last fall by focusing on the importance of imagination. The student cast and crew make a commitment to after school and weekend rehearsals during the spring.

Evening performances will be at 7 p.m. on April 28 and 29 in the Chute Middle School Auditorium, 1400 Oakton St. Ticket prices at the door are $6, slightly lower in advance.
