Diane Pontius of Lee Street in Evanston will moderate a group of participants attending a  9th Congressional District Community Forum being called by the local MoveOn council.  Some 100 progressives will meet at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd., at 7 p.m. tonight.

The forum will focus on examining the influence of major corporations as it threatens the political process.  Local citizens are expected to attend with their questions, complaints and suggestions regarding the influence corporate lobbies have on government, legislative oversight and the rights and voices of citizens and other stake holders in the political process.

The forum will start with a national MoveOn presentation, and continue in small moderated sessions with participants exploring the issues, possible actions and remedies to make elected officials accountable to the 98 percent of the electorate who do not have access to lobbyist activities.

“The forum is for those who have had enough of Wall Street CEOs getting big bonuses and calling the shots in Washington, for those tired of yelling at their TVs,” said Larry Goldberg of Evanston, coordinator of the forum.  “The meeting is one of hundreds happening around the country to launch a massive movement to make Washington work for everyday Americans, not corporations,” he added.  Those interested in participating may register at
