The deadline is Tuesday, June 1, for applications for the City of Evanston’s Private Elm Tree Insurance Program. While Evanston maintains elm trees on public property, homeowners are responsible for removing diseased elms from their private property. Under the Private Elm Tree Insurance Program, the City will handle all aspects and costs of an infected tree’s removal to ground level. Removal of the remaining stump is up to the homeowner.

This is a one-year program, and new applications must be submitted each year. Applications are available on the City’s Web site,; at the Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.; or by calling 847-866-2912.
