The downtown Farmers’ Market opened its 35th season on Saturday. As always, the market will have more than 30 vendors who sell  fruits, vegetables, meat, flowers, cheese, milk, eggs and bakery items. Musicians from the Evanston community contribute to the festive atmosphere. On certain Saturdays there will be cooking classes from Now We’re Cookin’ and the Home-Grown Artists weeks will return with works from local artists. The Illinois Department of Human Services has approved the use of Link cards at the downtown Farmers’ Market! Anyone approved to receive cash assistance or SNAP (Food Stamps) benefits is issued an Illinois Link card.

New this year is a “Friends of the Market” campaign. The City is seeking individuals who would like to become “Friends” of the market – who would volunteer their time and talents to make the market more enjoyable.

Anyone interested in becoming a Friend of the Market or who has questions about Link cards may contact Market Manager Zollie Webb at 847- 448-8138 or at
