Evanston Hospital, part of NorthShore University HealthSystem, donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center last week. J.P. Gallagher, right, presdient of Evanston Hospital, said the gift of the AED shows “that the health-care of the community goes beyond the four walls of our hospital.” He added, “We hope it’s never needed.”
Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, left, said the gift was “another example of NorthShore’s taking care of the needs of the community.” She added she agreed with the hope that the AED “was totally unnecessary, but I feel much better knowing it’s here.”
Doug Gaynor, director of the department of parks, recreation and community service, said all community centers have an AED, and there is one at James Park and one at the Civic Center. In addition, he said, “All our staff is trained in CPR.
