Evanston Cricket Club’s home opener, scheduled for June 27, was postponed because of a soggy field. The club will take the field, weather permitting, July 11. The rain did not dampen spirits, however, as it had passed by early afternoon. Cassandra Walters, the team’s scorekeeper, said, “At least we got two points!” Teams receive two points in the standing from a rainout.
Evanston’s Club, part of the Midwest Cricket Conference, is off to a slow start, having yet to win a contest. The upcoming July 11 match against rival Illinois should be a good matchup. “We owe them a good beating,” said Ms. Walters. The match will take place at James Park behind the animal shelter. The public is invited to watch our home side in action.
