Saying she was sending a message that underage drinking was not acceptable in Evanston, Elizabeth Tisdahl, liquor commissioner and mayor of Evanston, said she wished to sanction the owner of The Keg of Evanston by closing it for two days last week. The Liquor Commission backed up her suggestion, and The Keg was closed on July 1 and 2.

There were about 55 calls to the police in a six-month period, according to information from the City, and at least one member of the commission said The Keg has a reputation for serving alcohol to minors.

Owner Tom Mignon said his employees check IDs but that sometimes it is difficult to distinguish the fake ones. He also suggested that parents be held accountable when their children use fake IDs.
