Leslie Calvin, nineteen years old, was shot while driving northbound at 330 Ridge Avenue on July 4 at approximately 6:55 p.m., said Commander Tom Guenther, Public Information Officer of the Evanston Police Department. After being shot, Mr. Calvin’s vehicle crossed the curb on the west side of Ridge Avenue and struck a tree and fire hydrant. Mr. Calvin died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident is being investigated by the Evanston Police Department detectives and members of NORTAF. As of Tuesday afternoon, investigators were continuing to investigate significant leads provided by witnesses and associates of the deceased as well as to review and process recovered evidence, said Commander James Elliott of the Evanston Police Department. The motive for the shooting has not been determined and no persons are in custody, he said.
Mr. Calvin was an Evanston resident. He attended Bessie Rhodes Magnet School and Evanston Township High School.
