The Window Books project continues to cover Evanston, as merchants display books and posters in their windows to show their support for the City’s two branch libraries. Merchants who wish to demonstrate their support for keeping the branches choose a book that reflects either a theme of their enterprise or their own personal taste. Window Books volunteers then check out a copy of that book from the library, create a poster that shows the cover and the support for the branch libraries and give them to the merchant at no charge. Volunteers also pick up the books and return them to the library on or before the due date.
The project began on Central Street, where the North Branch is located. In the past two weeks, Main Street and Chicago Avenue merchants, near the South Branch, agreed to participate. Archaelologist Ann Foster, who said her love for the North Branch reaches back to her childhood, created the project and oversees the volunteers.
