Lightning struck wires at Central Street and Poplar Avenue around 7 p.m. on July 23 with a simultaneous huge flash of light and deafening thunderclap. John Labbe, who lives on Harrison Street took photos of Com Ed crews working on the downed lines. Electricity was back on in that neighborhood, including the Metra station, by the morning of July 24.
The City reports that in a nearby area, though, ComEd continued on July 24 to respond to 13 separate work orders to restore electric service in parts of north and northwest Evanston. ComEd reports that some work might continue into Sunday, July 25.
