On Aug. 1, Evanston police were called to a residence in the 600 block of Grove Street. Investigators learned that a woman was sleeping in her bed when she was awakened by an unknown Hispanic male at about 6 a.m., said Commander Tom Guenther, public information officer for the Evanston Police Department. The man entered the residence through an unsecured window, said the Commander. The offender placed his hand over the woman’s mouth and told her to be quiet; the offender then abused the woman by fondling her genitalia, said the Commander. The offender fled the victim’s residence.
Evanston police conducted a systematic search of the surrounding area and stopped a subject matching the offender’s description. This subject is currently being interviewed by Evanston police detectives as a person of interest, said the Commander.
