Police are asking for witnesses to the shooting of two youth at about 11:42 p.m. on Aug. 7 in the intersection of Davis Street and Benson Avenue in downtown Evanston to come forward.

One victim, a 17 year old male, was released from Evanston Hospital on Monday after receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The second victim, 16, is currently recovering from his injuries at Evanston Hospital and remains in serious condition in ICU, said Commander James A. Pickett, Office of Professional Standards of the Evanston Police Department.

During the investigation of the shooting, Evanston Detectives retrieved video footage from one of several cameras mounted in the area, said the Commander. The footage show a man taking photos before the shooting began, and several other citizens are also in the area, said the Commander. The Evanston Police Department is asking the individual who was taking pictures and anyone else who was in the area of the shooting and who may have witnessed it to contact the Detective Bureau with any information that could be helpful in the on-going investigation. The phone number is 847-866-5040.
