School District 65 has announced the appointments of Katharine Ellison as interim principal of Washington School, Erik Friedman as interim assistant principal of Washington School, and Yesenia Vazquez is the new Bilingual/ESL Coordinator for the District.
Katharine Ellison will serve as Interim Principal of Washington Elementary School. Ms. Ellison will move from her post as Assistant Principal of Washington to assume this role while the principal is on a leave of absence. Ms. Ellison is a former social worker at Dewey Elementary School. She has a Master of Arts in School Leadership and a Master of Arts in Social Work, both earned at the University of Illinois. She completed her undergraduate work in elementary education from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Erik Friedman will serve as Interim Assistant Principal at Washington. Mr. Friedman has been with District 65 since 2003 serving as a social worker at Lincolnwood Elementary School. His educational background includes a Master of Arts in School Leadership from Concordia University, Master of Social Work from Loyola University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology the from University of Illinois.
Yesenia Vazquez will take over as the new Bilingual/ESL Coordinator for District 65. She served as a classroom teacher at Dr. Bessie Rhodes Magnet School. Ms. Vazquez brings leadership experience from her time as Principal Intern of Reilly Elementary school, where she managed large teams and worked with them to create a shared vision. At her first teaching job at Lozano Bilingual school in Chicago, she developed and implemented the middle school economics program. She also helped to increase family and community involvement through a new health and wellness curriculum.
