The City Council will begin its annual budget process this year on Sept. 20 with a City Council goal-setting session. The City will also hold two sessions for input from residents: at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Council chambers of the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., and at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.
Although no formal decisions have been discussed or approved, the City is proposing an increase in water rates and an adjustment in sewer rates for some users. Moreover, City officials and the Mayor have said that property taxes will increase in the next fiscal year.
The City Council recently voted to change the City’s fiscal year to coincide with the calendar year, so this year’s budget process may seem accelerated. At present, the tentative date for adopting next year’s budget is Nov. 22.
