Backstage Evanston a Roaring Success

The lights were dim but there was no need for curtain to be raised at Backstage Evanston. Performers from A to Z – Actors Gymnasium to Theatre Zarko – created their own scenery and atmosphere as they gave the audience of more than 200 a taste of the upcoming season of arts in Evanston. The $20 admission ticket was redeemable for tickets to later performances by most of the participating groups: Actors Gymnasium, Evanston Dance Ensemble, Evanston Symphony Orchestra, Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre, the Lakeside Singers, Light Opera Works, the Musical Offering, Music Institute of Chicago, Next Theatre, North Shore Choral Society, Northwestern University Theatre Department, Piccolo Theatre, Piven Theatre Workshop and Theatre Zarko. Backstage Evanston took place at Northwestern University’s Theatre and Interpretation Center, and Rives Collins, chair of the theatre department, served as emcee. The Arts and Business Committee of the Evanston Arts Council presented Backstage Evanston, which they say they hope will become an annual event.
