The Talking Farm, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating healthier, more sustainable communities through the production, consumption, and appreciation of more local foods, will hold its second annual fund-raiser on Sunday, Oct. 17, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Garder Inn in Evanston.
Last year’s benefit for The Talking Farm sold out, exceeding the group’s fund-raising goals, and organizers of this year’s event hope for equal success.
“Many of the issues we face today—rising rates of lifestyle diseases, climate change, food scares, even job creation—are connected in some way to food,” says Kay Branz, president of The Talking Farm. “We believe that, if we can make positive changes in what we eat and where it comes from, we can positively influence many of these other concerns as well.”
“Laughter in the Garden” will showcase some of the gifts the region has to offer. The Piven Theater’s Teen Touring Company, Roxy Bellows, and the Joel Spencer Duo, will perform. Guests will also have a chance to sample appetizers provisioned by local growers at Faith’s Farm, Henry’s Farm, Irv and Shelly’s Fresh Picks, Nichol’s Farm and Testa Produce and desserts from Bleeding Heart Bakery. Award winning wines from Lynfred Winery, Illinois’ oldest and largest bonded winery, will also be offered, as well as a cash bar.
There will also be a wonderful array of raffle items whose sale will support the mission of The Talking Farm.
The Hilton Garden Inn is located at 1818 Maple Avenue in downtown Evanston. Tickets for the benefit may be purchased online at www.thetalkingfarm.org.
