A 13-year old girl has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and felony reckless conduct for writing a note, “I will bomb this school” on Sept. 22, said Commander James A. Pickett, criminal investigations at the Evanston Police Department.
On Sept. 22, at approximately 2:35 p.m., a fifth grade teacher encountered a female student in the second floor girls’ bathroom who appeared fearful of using one of the stalls. Upon checking the stall the teacher observed a note handwritten on a roll of tissue paper stating, “I will bomb this school.” The teacher and the student proceeded to the principal’s office, and police were notified, said Cmdr. Pickett. Police officers, along with school officials, searched the school and found no suspicious items.
After viewing video footage from a camera located outside the washroom, school officials and the investigators were able to narrow down the students who utilized the washroom around the time of the incident. Subsequent interviews of the students led to a confession by a 13-year-old female juvenile who admitted to writing the note, said Cmdr. Pickett. The student was charged as a juvenile with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and felony reckless conduct. She was subsequently referred to Juvenile Court.
