The Chicago Sun Times released its annual listing of the top 100 public elementary schools, the top 100 public middle schools and the top 100 high schools in Illinois on Oct. 29. The Sun Times bases its ranking, not on the percent of students “meeting standards” on the Illinois Standard Achievement Test or the Prairie State Achievement Exam, but based on the scale scores of students on those tests. Using a standardization method, the Sun Times creates a school average score that’s compared to other schools’ average scores.
On the 2010 ISATs, Willard and Orrington elementary schools ranked 24th and 57th respectively among elementary schools. Haven and Nichols middle schools ranked 44th and 84th respectively among middle schools.
On the 2010 PSAEs, Evanston Township High School ranked 72nd in the state.
