City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz has announced the appointment of Stephen K. Griffin as Director of Community and Economic Development. Mr. Griffin will begin his duties on Nov. 29.
Mr. Griffin, currently Director of Planning for Prince William County, Va., brings to the position 25 years of municipal community development experience. Prior to his service in Prince William County, Griffin was Director of Planning in Spotsylvania County, Va., and Director of Community and Economic Affairs in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Griffin received a Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master’s degree in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
“Mr. Griffin brings to Evanston a combination of working in a large, diverse county along with a history of bringing innovative approaches to project review and economic development,” said Mr. Bobkiewicz. “His eight years in working Prince William County have exposed him to many challenges serving a community that is very passionate about maintaining its quality of life. Successfully navigating the County’s unique mix of historic properties and development pressures being located in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area have prepared Steve well for the challenges he will face in Evanston.
