Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, right, presents the keys to the City to Prof. Dale Mortensen and flowers to his wife, Beverly.

Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl invited everyone who attended Monday night’s City Council meeting to celebrate the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Economics to Evanston resident Dr. Dale T. Mortensen, professor of economics at Northwestern University and visiting professor at Aarhus University in Denmark. As she presented Prof. Mortensen with the key to the City, she read a list of his publications – more than 50 – and his honors. His research centers on “markets with search frictions.” Prof. Mortensen said, “This is a great honor. … I’ve been a long-time resident of Evanston, 45 years, and I appreciate the neighbors’ acclamation.” Beverly Mortensen, his wife, who received a bouquet of flowers, said, “We’ve been here a long time. We’re very grateful that you think this is fun – we do, too.”
