Evanstonians Marsha Niazmand (right) and Paula Cofresi Silverstein, (left), both social workers and members of the Chicago chapter of American Women for International Understanding, were part of a two-week 12-woman delegation to Japan this October.

In Shingu and in Osaka they met with groups working on women’s issues. The delegation spent three days visiting Hiroshima, City of Peace. There they toured the Peace Museum and the Atomic Bomb Dome. At the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Park for Atomic Bomb Victims they met with Ms. Sakao (center), a bomb victim who was 12 years old and at the hypocenter area at the time of the bombing. They also had an audience with the mayor of Hiroshima, Tadatoshi Akiba.
