Lincoln Elementary School held Wellness Weeks, a creative showcase of healthy eating and smart fitness choices, from Nov. 1 through 16.

The two-week program was designed to educate and amuse. At lunchtime, students had opportunities to train with karate champions and a yoga teacher, discuss wellness with a personal trainer, play soccer and compete on the monkey bars.

For parents, the Wellness Weeks crew at Lincoln sponsored an evening PTA forum on Nov. 9, featuring chef Melissa Graham, the founder of Purple Asparagus, a non-profit group dedicated to bringing families back to the table by promoting habits associated with good eating – eating that is good for the body and the planet.

Making healthful choices can be fun and satisfying, says the Lincoln group, which is also leading an effort to raise awareness of District 65’s new lunch
options.

The Wellness Weeks project concluded with a Family Fitness Fair on Nov. 16.
