A 40-year old Skokie man has been charged in connection with a shooting that took place on July 15, 2010 in the 1900 block of Howard Street in Evanston, said Commander Tom Guenther, public information officer of the Evanston Police Department. The victim was shot in the lower right side of his back after midnight. Evanston paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital.
The victim was talking to some friends and relatives in the 1900 block of Howard Street when a truck came into the area, parking near the group. The victim told police that as he walked away from the group, he and the suspect engaged in a verbal confrontation that soon escalated when the suspect produced a hand gun and began to shoot at the victim, said Commander Guenther. The victim told police that he was struck by a single round in the back; the victim yelled for help and took cover between cars parked on the street, said the Commander. The suspect then drove off in the truck, said the Commander.
After being unable to locate the suspect, police obtained an arrest warrant on a felony charge for aggravated battery with a firearm. Police successfully executed the arrest warrant and took the suspect into custody on Jan. 12.
