U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan today awarded more than $83 million in funding to keep 398 local homeless assistance programs in Illinois operating in the coming year. Almost $1 million was allocated to programs in Evanston.  The grants form a critical foundation for the Obama Administration’s Opening Doors strategy, the nation’s first comprehensive plan to prevent and end homelessness.
