This past Thursday I had the pleasure of hearing Richard Rykhus speak at the kick-off of his campaign for seat on the District 65 School Board. What a wonderful surprise! Richard is passionate, rational, smart, funny and tough. He talked about the importance of supporting, recruiting and keeping talented teachers, the importance of evaluating student achievement from multiple sources (not just the ISAT) and using these outcomes to help determine the direction the district needs to move. He also pointed to the importance of meaningful collaboration at every level in the district, and the importance of fiscal responsibility, which would include the end of rolling contract renewals for the supertindent.
We are lucky to have such a talented and qualified individual run for school board. I hope residents of Evanston will take a look at his website or seek out an opportunity to hear him speak, and give him their vote.
