On Jan. 13, Roycemore School officially marked the purchase of a new location at 1200 Davis Street in Evanston at a reception for local city officials, trustees, faculty and other school leaders. The School plans to move from its current location in north Evanston to the new site for the 2011-12 school year, after renovating the 55,000-square foot building that was the former headquarters of the General Board of Pension Funds for the United Methodist Church. Plans also include adding a gymnasium of approximately 7,800 square feet to accommodate physical education and athletic programs.

The purchase ended a four-year location search spurred primarily by Roycemore’s desire to provide additional space for classrooms and offices, as well significant increases in dedicated spaces for science and fine and performing arts. As a result, there will be room for enrollment to increase from the current 260 students to approximately 350 students over the next several years. The renovation will allow immediate expansion of the School’s Early Childhood program for three- and four-year-olds.

Headmaster Joseph Becker, announcing the purchase noted, “We are delighted that we will be able to remain a part of the Evanston community at a site that is so conveniently located to public transportation.”
