Dear Editor,

I am writing to enthusiastically support Richard Rykhus for the District 65 school board.  As a lifelong Evanstonian, educator at ETHS, and parent of children in District 65, I recognize the need for change in our district.  I believe that Richard is uniquely qualified to serve on the school board and that he will serve as an advocate for all students and their families.

Richard earned a Masters degree from Northwestern University in education and social policy, providing him valuable insight into the specific issues facing both students and teachers in the classroom.  In discussing the district with Richard, I was impressed by his familiarity with the specific educational challenges inherent to a diverse district like District 65.  He understands what works well in our schools and what needs to change.

Richard Rykhus has not only the analytical skills necessary to navigate our complex district, but also the calm, respectful demeanor that will enable him to participate in constructive dialogue in school board meetings as well as serve as an active liaison between parents and the administration.   Please join me in voting for the positive, constructive change that Richard Rykhus will bring to District 65.
