Editor,
I am writing in support of Jonathan Baum for District 202 School Board. I am the Founding Director of Evanston Citizens for Appropriate Special Education (CASE). Jonathan has been a member of our Advisory Board since the development of our organization due to his concern for children with special needs in Evanston. He continues to contribute his expertise to CASE as a parent, attorney and former District 65 School Board member.
Jonathan served on the District 65 School Board from 2003 – 2007. During that time he advocated for procedural changes to make special education services more consumer friendly; including promoting the idea of a Parent Handbook to assist parent’s in navigating the special services system, and insisting that every teacher have their student’s IEP’s before the start of the school year. Jonathan was responsive to the concerns of parents of children with special needs, and will continue that commitment as a member of the D202 Board.
Jonathan is also in a unique position to provide a bridge between District 65 and District 202 in order to facilitate a seamless, coordinated educational experience for our children. Jonathan stands on principle, has the personality to make tough decisions among competing interests, and will represent the needs of all students.
Jonathan Baum is a true public servant and I appreciate his willingness to serve our community again as a member of the District 202 School Board. Please join me in supporting him by voting starting March 14th. To learn more about Jonathan’s perspectives and experience, visit his website at www.baum202.org.
