To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Richard Rykhus’ candidacy for District 65 School Board.  I first met Richard in the summer of 2009 when we joined a concerned group of parents and Evanston CASE (Citizens for Appropriate Special Education) to engage the Board regarding the District’s Inclusion Plan for children with special needs.  Richard addressed the Board on multiple occasions with eloquence, tenacity, and specificity, always insisting that our important educational and financial decisions should be built upon solid data and measurable outcomes.

If elected, Richard would act upon his belief that an effective School Board member should respond directly and efficiently to the needs of the community members.  He would courageously challenge the current administration to act in the best interests of District 65’s diverse community of learners, and use his considerable strategic planning and educational experience to find fiscally responsible solutions to the myriad of complex issues the District faces.

Richard’s professionalism and personal integrity combine to create an outstanding candidate for District 65 School Board.  To borrow a turn of phrase from composer Stephen Schwartz; since I met Richard, I have been changed for the better.  I have no doubt that he will change District 65 for good.

Early voting begins March 14th – please use your voice to vote for Richard Rykhus for District 65 School Board.

Sincerely,

Kara Pasierb Smith
