FAAM held its annual pancake breakfast and basketball championship games on Feb. 19 before a standing-room only, overflow crowd at Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center. Excitement built up as the championship games began.
The Timberwolves took on the Rockets for the girls championship game. The Rockets led, 15-6, at the half, and they stayed ahead for the rest of the game to win 23-17.
In the boys championship game, the Bulls took on the Bucks, who were undefeated in season play. The Bucks jumped to an early lead, 7-0, but the Bulls came back to move ahead, 8-7. In a hard fought game the Bulls ultimately won 41-28.
In the consolation games, on the girls side Liberty beat the Comets, 26-21; on the boys side the Spurs beat the Suns, 50-38.
FAAM has 14 boys basketball teams, six girls basketball teams and two cheerleading squads and serves more than 300 youngsters; the program is supported by more than 400 volunteers. FAAM strives to provide youth with positive role models and with the values of competition, community, commitment, diversity, education, fun, fellowship, integrity, responsibility and teamwork.
