The Indianapolis show was fantastic last weekend. Fishing trips for the coming year were confirmed, and time spent with a few resorts trying to plan and arrange future trips to Kentucky Lake, Lake Cumberland and a fly-fishing trip in Canada.

The new electronics and fishing lures coming out this year were on display. The electronics are getting more and more sophisticated, with HD screens, 3-D imaging and full-color visuals, not to mention high-detail contour maps built into the units, all making the fish easier to locate.  Every year the tackle industry’s new lures and advances on older lures make going to these shows more interesting. This year was no different. Swim baits were front and center, with new shapes and sizes “guaranteed” to catch more fish.

This is a good time to get fishing licenses in order. Those who travel a lot to do their fishing may buy fishing licenses in states other than Illinois, such as Wisconsin and Minnesota. This is easy to do today, not so years ago. Not so long ago one had to drive to each state and locate a store that sold the license that was open. Today the only requirement is an internet connection. Most states have a website on which one can purchase the license online and print at home. Here is a list to help get that fishing license in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota: Illinois www.dnr.state.il.us; Wisconsin www.dnr.wi.gov; Minnesota www.state.mn.us

Until next time, keep a tight line.
