To address the achievement gap at ETHS, Jane Colleton co-founded The Picture-book Project for teen mothers in 1991. Its principle focus is the cognitive development of the babies, with the goal that these future ETHS students will be high achievers. While teaching parenting and early literacy skills and giving encouragment and new picture-books to young mothers, Jane also nurtures current ETHS students and contributes to the effort to keep them in school and achieving academically.
I have worked with Jane for nearly 20 years in this program and have seen that her effort for student achievement in two settings –hands-on in the community and at the policy level on the 202 Board— augments her work in both. We need her experience, dedication, and vision on the ETHS Board.
