Evanston police arrested two Evanston men, 37- and 50-years old, for criminal trespass to land in connection with an alleged attempt to steal scrap metal, said Commander Tom Guenther, public information officer of the Evanston Police Department.
When police responded to a call at about 10 a.m. on March 17, they were informed by employees that two offenders driving a U-Haul truck were observed in the rear of property in the 2200 block of Main Street, attempting to steal scrap metal, said the Commander. The employees confronted these subjects and recognized them from previous theft incidents, he said. Once confronted, the offenders fled the area in the U-Haul truck before police arrived.
Police broadcast a description of the offenders, and they were stopped in the area of Church St. and Dodge Ave. After they were identified as the offenders, they were taken into custody for criminal trespass to land, said the Commander.
