Evanston RoundTable cartoonist Martha Rosenberg has signed a book deal with Amherst, New York-based Prometheus Books.
Tentatively titled “Born with a Fritos Deficiency: How Flaks, Quacks and Hacks Pimp the Public Health,” she exposes how Big Pharma and Big Food purvey potentially harmful products through sponsored science; aggressive, and sometimes deceptive, marketing and high-level lobbying.
With irreverence and humor Ms. Rosenberg says meat from clones, banned veterinary drugs and drug-resistant pathogens may already be on dinner plates in this country; growing numbers of noncombat military deaths have been allegedly linked to PTSD drugs and top-selling pharmaceuticals are causing conditions they are supposed to treat.
Ms. Rosenberg is a former medical copywriter, and her work has appeared in the Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, Consumers Digest and Huffington Post. She has served as cartoonist to the Evanston RoundTable since 2000.
