Evanston Police Officers Pat Wozniak, William Arzuaga and Fire Captain Steve Perrino and Firefighter Paramedic Ryan Davis were honored for their service in the National Guard and Reserve Forces on April 21. These men were honored in a ceremony attended by Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Michael Holub and Carolyn Murray, who represented Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Also present supporting their men were Police Chief Richard Eddington and Fire Chief Greg Klaiber as well as citizens, police officers and firefighters.

These officers and firefighters not only put their lives on the line for the citizens of Evanston, but go throughout the world answering their countries call to service often in very hostile and dangerous conditions, said Commander Tom Guenther, public information officer of the Evanston Police Department. Family members are left behind to cope with the lack of a parent, a spouse and the challenges of everyday life.

The two professions of Police Officer and Firefighter are often referred to as highly stressful and dangerous ways to make a living. That is why it is extremely appropriate and deserved that these dedicated public servants should be recognized and honored, said the Commander.
