Families from all over Evanston gathered on April 16 at the McGaw Y to celebrate Healthy Kids Day, a national Y movement that aims to get families more active by teaching healthy habits and inspiring a love of physical activity.
“Healthy Kids Day was a great way to get kids active on a rainy Saturday,” said Mira Kaiser, health and wellness manager at the McGaw Y. “Many of the children who participated left sweaty, exhausted but with smiles on their faces. Families had the opportunity to try different activities that the McGaw Y offers like martial arts, Zumba and family gym activities. Most important, however, was the fact that they got to try these activities together.”
The McGaw Y also kicked off an annual fund online campaign called “Spring Into Wellness” at Healthy Kids Day. With “Spring Into Wellness” individuals and families can set a personal wellness goal to benefit their health and well-being while their friends, family and colleagues can motivate and support them as well as help the McGaw YMCA raise $10,000 for youth scholarships.
