Andalib Khelghati has been appointed the new principal at Dewey Elementary School, effective July 1. Mr. Khelghati has previously served as the assistant principal at Reavis Elementary School in Chicago since July 2006, and before that as a literacy leader at an elementary school in Chicago for three years. He replaces Andrew Krugly. 

Mr. Khelghati received a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Columbia University in February 2001, and completed his Leadership and Administrative coursework at Lewis University in August 2004. He is pursuing an Ed.D in Urban Leadership at the University of Illinois at Chicago. 

Jennifer Laughlin and Carlos Mendez have been appointed as assistant principals at Haven Middle School, effective Aug. 25. They replace Monica Schaefer, who is returning to a teaching position, and Montie Apostolos, who is resigning at the conclusion of this school year. 

Ms. Laughlin has served as a Middle School Literacy Coach for District 65 since August 2007. Before that she worked as a Literature and Writing Magnet School Lead Teacher for Chicago Public Schools for two years. She received a Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from DePaul University in July 2007.

 Mr. Mendez previously served as the assistant principal at Albany Park Multicultural Academy in Chicago since March 2007. Before that he was a math and science coach for one year. He received a Master of Arts degree in School Leadership from Concordia University in December 2006, and a Master of Arts degree in Urban Teaching from Columbia College in January 2005.
