Evanston police officers will be conducting a Roadside Safety Check beginning on Friday May 27, 2011, from 10:00 p.m. and continuing to Saturday May 28, 2011 at 4:00 a.m., said Commander Tom Guenther, public information officer for the Evanston Police Department. The safety check will be conducted in a high volume traffic area within the City of Evanston.

The objectives of the Roadside Safety Check are designed to reduce traffic crashes and the liability associated with violations of vehicular safety laws.

The goal is to detect and enforce violations associated with impaired driving, as well as any occupant restraint violations, said the Commander. Additional enforcement activities will focus on compliance with the Illinois driver license statutes, liability insurance compliance, and other vehicle statutes and/ or ordinances.
