On May 15, at approximately 2 a.m., Evanston police responded to a vehicle accident in the 500 Block of Elmwood in Evanston, Illinois. Once on scene officers determined that a Best Taxi driver, now identified as Mr. Leodis Blackburn, had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, which resulted in Mr. Blackburn’s taxi crashing into parked cars. Evanston Fire Paramedics responded, treated and transported Mr. Blackburn to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition. 

On May 18, in the early evening, Mr. Blackburn succumbed to his injuries, said Tom Guenther, public information officer of the Evanston Police Department. The Evanston Police Department and the North Regional Major Crime Task Force will now be investigating this incident as a homicide. 

The Evanston Police Department is currently seeking the public’s assistance and encourages anyone having information to call 847-866-5040. All information will remain confidential, said Commander Guenther.
