Evan Girard, a mother of students at Washington Elementary School and Nichols Middle School, was presented the 2011 Phyllis Ganser Outstanding PTA Voluteer of the Year award at the District 65 School Board meeting on May 16. The award is given to a person who exhibits a commitment to the PTA goal of promoting the welfare of all school children, a willingness to work in any capacity (even behind the scenes), a spirit and enthusiasm for volunteer work, and an ability to engage and involve other volunteers.

In presenting the award, Sue Ganser Levinson, at left in photo, said, “Evan is deserving of this kind of recognition because of the length of her service – nine years and counting, because her service has been constant, tireless and dedicated, but above all because her involvement has made a true positive impact on our school community.”

This award was established to honor the memory of Phyllis Ganser, an outstanding PTA volunteer who set a high standard through her dedication to the community of children. At the time of her death in January, 2000, Ms. Ganser had children at Walker, Chute and Evanston Township High School.
