Faces of Evanston, now in its seventh year, enters a new phase with the addition of videography, to complement its photography contest. The contest, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston, opens June 1 and will conclude on August 15.
Dr. Stamata Blanas, a local dentist and Kiwanian, initiated the contest as a way to bring the arts more directly to Evanstonians and area photographers. “ All photos and the new videography are of the Evanston community, providing focus on the treasures we have right at our doorstep,” Dr. Blanas says.
The ETHS involvement is an extension of the Kiwanis club’s partnership with the high school with the encouragement of Dr.Richard Bowers, head of the arts department. The Kiwanis club has partnered with ETHS on the Special Olympics, Earth Day and the Evanston School of Wrestling. The club also works with the athletic department to provide customized mouth guards for athletic participants and has honored 105 student/athletes on a monthly basis over the past four years. In the fall of 2011, the club will also honor student artists on a monthly basis.
