The City of Evanston Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has been awarded over $40,000 in funding for a senior congregate lunch program to begin in fall 2011. The grant is administered through AgeOptions, the regional agency that distributes federal funding under the Older Americans Act. The Department received funding for a senior lunch program at two different sites. This grant will offset the cost of each meal and no eligible senior shall be denied participation because of inability to contribute.

The Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave., Evanston, will serve lunches on all five weekdays, while Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St., will serve a meal every Wednesday. The grant is for one year and will be renewable for the next fiscal year, with an optional third year. Menus and other program components are still being determined. Updates will be posted at as they become available.
