Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez recently honored 13 local students for their award winning artwork that will be featured in the State’s Attorney’s 2012 calendar.
The annual contest, which is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in Cook County, asked students to depict positive alternatives to drug use. The thirteen winners were chosen from more than 700 entries submitted from public, private and parochial students throughout the county.
“These students showed talent and wisdom beyond their years with their artistic displays of alternatives to and consequences of drug use,” Alvarez said. “I want to thank all the students who submitted entries to the contest.”
Among the winners was Ian O’Shaughnessy, a 7th grader from St. Athanasius School in Evanston.
