The fifth annual Nichols Middle School walk-a-thon was held on June 3, with more than 500 students participating. Students sought to raise at least $20,000, which will go to support the American Heart Association and a scholarship fund established in honor of the late Sandy McDermott, who was a math teacher at the school until her death in 2008.
Nichols students have raised over $20,000 in each of the Walk-a-thons in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The event now includes a Nichols community picnic, a school carnival and the addition of Park School as a partner. Pictured above, students begin walking east on Greenwood Street.
