At 7 p.m. on June 10, police officers from the Evanston Police Department and the Chicago Police Department’s 24th District –Rogers Park Station met for a joint roll call in the parking lot of the Popeye’s Chicken located on the corner of Howard Street and Damen Avenue. Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington and Chicago Police 24th District Commander Michael Wick were present for the roll call.
Information was exchanged between both departments to assist in deploying officers to deal with hot spot locations in the area, said Commander Jay Parott of the Evanston Police Department. The exchange helps officers to be well versed on issues that need police attention in both jurisdictions. The Commander added that officers from the two departments frequently assist each other and that they have an excellent working relationship in addressing concerns on both sides of the Howard St. corridor.
Outdoor roll calls are conducted at various times and locations that require a higher police presence throughout the warmer months, said Commander Parott. This allows the public a chance to see how police are briefed on problem issues and provided information to address community concerns specific to their neighborhoods, he said.
