On July 17 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Evanston Police responded to a call of an unresponsive male found in his basement apartment by friends at 1223 Dodge Ave. The man was identified as Juan L. Sanchez, age 34. Mr. Sanchez was deceased, and the initial police investigation revealed that prior to going to bed, he was involved in a physical altercation with another subject while attending a party late Saturday night, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department.
Police determined that no weapon was used during the altercation and several witnesses advised that both Sanchez and the other subject were intoxicated at the time of the altercation, said the Commander. Mr.Sanchez was reportedly kicked and punched several times by the other subject, said the Commander.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on July 18 and determined that Mr. Sanchez had multiple injuries and ruled his death a homicide. Evanston police and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force are still investigating the death; a person of interest is in-custody at this time, said the Commander.
