On July 18, a 35-year old Evanston man was charged with one felony count of first degree murder of Juan L. Sanchez, age 34, also an Evanston resident. Investigators determined that the man stuck Mr. Sanchez, several times which caused multiple injuries and internal bleeding causing his death, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug.11.

On July 17, Evanston Police responded to a call of an unresponsive male found in his basement apartment by friends at 1223 Dodge Ave. The man, identified as Mr. Sanchez, was deceased, and the initial police investigation revealed that prior to going to bed, he was involved in a physical altercation with another person while attending a party late Saturday night, said Commander Parrott. Police determined that no weapon was used during the altercation.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on July 18 and determined that Mr. Sanchez had multiple injuries and ruled his death a homicide.
